Altar Guild: Our Altar Guild is privileged to have ten members who work in teams of two to set up for our weekly services on Sunday as well as for special Services during Lent, Easter, Christmas, Advent Candlelight And Carols, the Greening of the Church, and anything else that comes along.
We have work sessions prior to Easter and Christmas to dust and polish silver and brass. As we handle the beautiful silver, some dating back to the 1800’s, we are reminded of those who came before us and try our best to care for them so they can be passed on to those who come after us. We’re good at removing lipstick and wine stains. Altar Guild work is behind the scenes work which we all feel blessed to be able to do.
Currently active Altar Guild members are: Janet Boss, Flo Meyers, Joan Porcaro, Susan Grayshaw, Joanne Martell, Maryellen Schumacher, Rosina Ripton, Nancy DiMaggio, Kathleen Glover and Peg Ripton. We would very much like to add four more people to our team. Men are welcome. We would also welcome any young people who have been confirmed. Please see me if you are interested.
We give thanks for our dedicated team of workers, and for their faithful service in this small corner of God’s Dominion by The Sea (i.e., the Diocese of Long Island). – Peg Ripton, Director
The Charitable Outreach Committee: of Zion Church once again invites nominations of local organizations in need of financial contributions to further their programs of assisting people in need.
The Vestry each year approves a Committee proposal that the Parish award up to specified portion of church funds to local charitable organizations that meet certain criteria.
The 2012 process for submission, consideration and award is as follows: Parishioners are invited to nominate their candidates for consideration to Peg Ripton, Committee Co-Chair, up until the deadline of October 31st. Please provide the name of the organization, address, key contact name and telephone number. In addition, please provide any literature pertaining to the organization as well as a financial statement, if available. We will review all applications and notify those organizations that qualify for consideration.
Applicants under consideration must be prepared to present their requests in person, with a review of their previously submitted material, on Saturday, in November (date to be announced) at Zion Church. Organizations unable to present in person will not be eligible for awards.
The Committee will deliberate and then choose those organizations that will receive awards which will make a significant impact to the neediest as compared to awarding many small contributions. Awards will be identified by the Committee at its November meeting and submitted to the Vestry at the Dec. 11th meeting and thereafter announced.
